Neat & Tangled Reveal Day #4

Hi there friends! Welcome back to day four of the Neat & Tangled July release! Today I will be sharing a set of sparkly cards using some of the new stencils that are being released this month.

Stencils are great for a variety of techniques, and I thought it would be fun to use them with gold watercolors to create shimmering accents overtop of watercolored backgrounds.

Neat & Tangled Reveal Day #4_2

I started off by ink smooshing distress inks onto watercolor paper to create some quick and easy watercolored backgrounds. Because these backgrounds were going to be covered up by the gold watercolors, I wasn’t worried about having them perfect. For the background colors I used Wilted Violet, Worn Lipstick and Tumbled Glass.

Neat & Tangled Reveal Day #4_3

I used my Finetec gold watercolors to use as “ink” for ink blending the stencil designs over top the Distress Ink backgrounds. To do this, I lightly spritzed the watercolor pans with water and dabbed my ink blending tool into the watercolors; next I sponged the watercolor “ink” over the stencil-covered background. I applied the watercolor over the stencil until I had the entire background covered.

Neat & Tangled Reveal Day #4_1

When I was applying the watercolors using the ink blending tool, I needed to re-wet the watercolors every so often to keep them damp; this allowed them to glide and blend across the stencil easily. Just be careful with how much water you use to keep the watercolors moist; too much water will result in an oversaturated ink blending tool and will cause the watercolor to soak under the stencil. If you don’t have gold watercolors, you could also do this with a gold ink pad, like the Delicata Golden Glitz ink.

Neat & Tangled Reveal Day #4_5

To finish off the cards I heat embossed the “hello you” sentiment over each card panel and added little coordinating, die cut hearts. The die cut hearts are watercolored with the same watercolors that were applied onto the cards.
