Flowers, Kraft & Twine

Hello! I am back with another card featuring some of the Altenew “Vintage Roses” stamps, and a bit of watercoloring.

If you are a frequent visitor to my blog, you might know how much I love this stamp set! I’ve used it on numerous cards, and just cannot seem to stop using it. :)

For the card I’ve created today, I stamped one of the roses onto a piece of watercolor paper using two Tim Holtz distress inks in multiple generations. For additional detail, I added some extra shading with watercolor pencils and then spritzed it with water to allow it to blend a bit. Once dry, I fussy cut the image out and set it aside.

On another piece of watercolor paper, I stamped the mason jar from the American Crafts “Serendipity” stamp set with a second generation of Wild Honey distress ink. I then watercolored it with the Wild Honey, as well as with yellow watercolor pencils. With some green pencils, I added the stem of my flower in a very loose way, since when looking through a real jar, the stem would appear a bit “distorted”. I fussy cut this image out as well.

On a 3 1/4″ by 4 1/2″ watercolor panel, I drew the rest of the stem for my flower and stamped the leaves using the “Vintage Roses” stamp set. I added shading to the leaves with my watercolor pencils and also gold heat embossed the sentiment, which is from the Penny Black Inc “Hugs” stamp set.

I scored a double frame around the panel with my scoring board, and adhered the rose and mason jar to my panel with foam tape. With some dot stamps from the Simon Says Stamp “Sending Happy Thoughts” and “Celebrate” sets, I stamped a bit of background around my focal point, just to help add a little interest to the design.

The panel is layered onto some vellum and then adhered to the light-kraft colored card base with foam tape. On the card base I layered a patterned paper scalloped circle (cut in half), a white paper strip, and some purple ribbon, tied with a bit of yellow twine. For a final finishing touch, I added some Wink of Stella glitter to the rose, the leaves and the highlights of the mason jar.
