Watercolor Blossoms

Happy First Day of Spring!

Spring is a beautiful time of year, and I am looking forward to the flowers blooming… and today I have a card featuring some more inspiration in using the Altenew “Vintage Roses” stamp set.

I absolutely love working with these stamps. There are so many looks that you can achieve with these stamps, and I have such fun playing with them!

For this card, I was going for a watercolor look, and decided to do my stamping with some Tim Holtz distress inks. I began with my roses first; for the layers, I used Spun Sugar for the first, a second generation of Worn Lipstick on the second layer and for the third, I stamped another coat of the Worn Lipstick over top.

With a watercolor brush, and a few shades of pink Derwent watercolor pencils, I added in additional shading, and blended the colors out.

Once dry, I came back in to do some more stamping, this time the leaves. For the leaves, I only stamped the first and second layers, using Peeled Paint and Forest Moss (in that order). Then, with some more watercolor pencils, I shaded and blended the leaves like I did the roses, until they were how I liked.

Because this card was going to be very clean and simple, and I also because I did not want to take away from the detailed roses, I stamped the sentiment gold heat embossed “Deepest Sympathy” (from the Hero Arts “Everyday Sayings” stamp set) in the area of the roses, and scored a frame around the edges of the panel. I then covered the scored frame with some Wink of Stella gold glitter. Finally, I layered my panel onto my brown card base with some foam tape.
