Hello everyone! I am back with you today, sharing some more colored pencil inspiration! This time I am working  around I am working with the Simon Says Stamp and Gina K. Designs STAMPtember® exclusive stamp set, Joy of the Season. And instead of coloring on gray paper, like I did in my most-recent colored pencil tutorial, I’ll be using Gina K. Designs navy cardstock!

For this technique, I made use of white pigment ink to be the base for my coloring. I love the look of pencils colored directly onto dark surfaces, but because I wanted things to really pop off the navy, I opted to work on the white ink. Plus, it’s super easy to see while you’re coloring over it!

I also did a bit of tone on tone stamping in the background of my scene, using some of the large snowflakes included in the Joy of the Season stamp set; these are stamped with Simon’s watermark embossing ink. Around the snowflakes are some dots of both Tonic Studios White Gloss Nuvo Drops and Signo white gel pen.

The teal cardstock used as the card base, as well as the navy I used for my coloring, are both from the Gina K. Designs Winter Rainbow Cardstock collection that she created exclusively for Simon Says Stamp. Gina’s cardstocks are among some of my most favorites!

There is a supporting sentiment from Simon’s Fa La La stamp set, white heat embossed onto Schoolhouse Red cardstock. I cut it down with one of the new Sentiment Labels dies, giving myself a perfectly trimmed banner.

My most-loved parts of this card are where I created unique blends of colors… on the ornament, there is a bit of green serving as the darkest color on my ornament. Check out how beautifully the green and turquoise blended together!

And speaking of blending, how about the way the myriad of colors blended  together for the ground under the mugs? By working with the darkest color first, and then softening the blend with lighter colors, I acheived a variegated effect that I simply love!

When doing an effect like this, make sure you use colors that are not completely opposite of each other. You’ll notice that even though I used a reddish tone in the ground alongside green, the red I chose has a purple undertone. Purple and green complement each other, so that helps the red blend better without turning  “muddy”.
