New Simon Says Stamp Dies for Tim Holtz Stamps: A Light-Up Display Panel

I am sharing a project I created with the new coordinating dies from Simon Says Stamp that match Tim Holtz stamps! This one doesn’t have a video, but I wanted to share it as inspiration for a mixed media display panel—that lights up! For this project I used the new Inspector dies that go with Tim’s Inspector stamp set. The dies give you the opportunity to layer some of the pieces of the inspector, which makes it so much easier than fussy cutting! I stamped The Inspector with Nocturne Versafine Clair Ink and colored the image with colored pencils.

I wrapped an Etcetera Facade with some of Tim’s blue fabric, which gives a cool soft texture to the framing. I hot glued this to an actual 4×6 frame so that it would be able to stand easily for display. I also added warm white Tiny Lights around the inside of the frame, which allows the pieces to light up. A good portion of the tiny lights are clustered behind the lightbulb that I suspended from the top of the frame—that way it looks like it is truly lit.

The patterned papers mixed into this piece are retired from Tim’s idea-ology collection—but if are a crafter like me that enjoys working with Tim’s products, you probably already have some of those in your stash. If not, something of similar colors but with different patterns would work just as well! I also mixed in some vintage buttons, which added a nice touch of metallic texture to the project. The Inspector stamps and dies were also used to make the “strictly hand made” banner and little suit images.
