Blue Skies Ahead

Hello!

I’m back to share with you another fun shaped card, which was inspired by this week’s sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches. I’ve made cards like this in the past (here, and here), and so I was really excited to see a sketch in this shape!

I started off my creating my card base from some watercolor paper; this card is 8″ by 3 1/4″, folded. I chose watercolor paper as my base, not because I was going to be watercoloring, but because I wanted to have a heavy paper since this is a larger card.

Taking some Simon Says Stamp Doll Pink cardstock and a music note stamp from the Heidi Swapp “Music Notes” background stamp, I stamped a music pattern along the paper. I then inked the top part of the paper with some Doll Pink ink, so that there would be a “shadow” effect when layered with the rest of my papers.

Cutting another piece of watercolor paper, I punched a scalloped edge along the bottom using the Fiskars Scallop Sentiment border punch. Taking the Lawn Fawn “Blue Skies” set, I stamped the sentiment in some Versamark ink and heat embossed it with my favorite gold powder, Ranger’s Princess Gold. I also used a gold gel pen to draw in the music notes and dots, which will be the trail for my butterfly.

Now for some masking on this panel… I drew a free hand cloud mask from some scrap cardstock and inked around the top of it with some Versamagic Aquatic Splash ink, as well as masking off a small strip and inking that with some green pigment ink.

Moving on to the butterfly, I used the Spellbinders Shapeabilities Butterflies die set and ran it through my Big Shot machine with some watercolor paper that I had already splattered with Heidi Swapp color shines (Primrose, Citron, and Mint). Taking my Aquatic Splash ink again, I inked the butterfly just a bit, concentrating on the center and outside edges. This helps define the beautiful embossed details this die cut has.

To put the card together, I adhered the Doll Pink cardstock and some aqua colored cardstock directly to my card base. I then took my watercolor panel (with a length of teal and white baker’s twine tied around it) and adhered this to the card with foam tape.

For finishing touches, some white faux stitching was added to the edges of the card, and a bit of Wink of Stella clear glitter was applied to the card and elements as well.

This card has such a happy, spring-like feel to it! I hope you’ve enjoyed and thank you for stopping by today!

Happy Creating! :)
