Altered Stenciling + Altenew Release Blog Hop
Happy Wednesday everyone! Are you excited for Altenew’s latest release of beautiful stencils, ink sprays and washi tape? This unique release has some fun products that I had a blast creating with and I cannot wait to show you what I made!
If you have already been hopping along with us, you should have arrived from my friend Svitlana Shayevich’s blog. The entire hop list can be found at the bottom of my post.
Within this new Altenew release are some gorgeous stencils. I was particularly excited about the Watercolor Bouquet, Poppy Bloom and Scallop Builder stencils, all of which I used today in a technique I am calling Altered Stenciling.
This is the first one layer card I made, using the Poppy Bloom stencil for the large floral and in the background the Scallop Builder stencil…
For this card I used Copic markers to color the image (R01, R21 and R22 for the petals, G20, G24, G28, G46 for the leaves, Y32, Y17, W4, W6, W8 for the center). I used my lightest colors and the stencil to create the base of the image. Then I removed the stencil and created additional details with the other markers. In some areas I adjusted the base image, creating a slight variation to the original stenciled design.
Around the flower I stenciled the Scallop Builder design to frame up the focal point. I used Rouge, Buttercream and Sea Glass Altenew inks with some ink daubers to create the soft background. I also sprayed a fine mist of the new Altenew Iridescent Shimmer Spray over my entire card. The sentiment on this card was from a oldie-but-goodie Altenew greeting stamp set called Heartfelt Sentiments.
You can see how I made this card if you watch the video above! :)
My second one layer altered project features the oh-so-pretty Watercolor Bouquet layering stencil…
I had the idea to create an underpainting effect with Distress Inks for this one and then paint over the stenciling with watercolors. The effect is much easier to understand if you watch the video above!
This took a bit of time to color, but it was so worth the time and effort. I find coloring relaxing, and this was something I spent an evening doing as I unwinded from a day of computer work.
I embellished the card with flicks of watercolor and Altenew’s Iridescent Shimmer Spray. Some Sparkling Clear sequins also found their way onto the card in some strategic areas, as I didn’t want to take away from the coloring. Finally I added a greeting, again using the Heartfelt Sentiments stamp sets (you can probably tell it’s one of my favorite sentiment sets, as I use it quite often)!
I really was excited with how the idea of doing the “underpainting” with Distress Ink blending through the stencil really made this watercolor effect come to life. I am hoping you will be giving this technique a try!
Before you move on to the next stop in this hop, I have a bonus card to share with you!
This one I made with the stunning Floral Flurries washi tape. I adhered the washi to some white cardstock and fussy cut many of these florals out with my Tim Holtz Mini Snips.
There is a background I ink blended with the Scallop Builder stencil, and I placed a stack of white, die cut oval frames on top of that (made with the Altenew Create a Wreath die set). It is around the oval frame that I placed all of my fussy cut floral images.
I added a little detail to the images with some marker and white gel pen stippling; but honestly these florals are so pretty by themselves, that you really do not need to do much to embellish them!
I finished off the card with a die cut greeting, which is from the Altenew Script Words die set and Tonic Studios’ Honey Gold mirror cardstock. If you look closely, you’ll also see a few Cupid’s Kiss Crystals from Studio Katia tucked around the flowers here and there.
I hope all of my cards I shared today have inspired you to create with the NEW Altenew stencils, ink sprays and washi tapes! Keep reading for supply lists, hop information and giveaways! I cannot wait to share more videos with you later this week, so make sure you stop by again soon to see what else I have in store for you. Thanks for visiting with me!
