STAMPtember: Altenew + Alcohol Ink Autumn Background
Hey there friends, thanks for stopping by today! I’ve got a new card to share with you featuring the newest STAMPtembr exclusive stamp set from Simon Says Stamp!
This new set is designed by Altenew and is called Be Leaf Me and features a lot of fun layering images that can be used to create beautifully stamped leaves. However, for this card, I wanted to use the outline image to do some coloring.
For my coloring medium, I chose the Tim Holtz Ranger Alcohol Inks. This is a newer medium to me that I have been experimenting with for a little bit now. This however, is the first finished project I have created with the alcohol inks and I really love how it turned out!
I started off by applying alcohol inks (Wild Plum, Butterscotch and Sunset) randomly onto a piece of Freezer Paper. These inks are very intense, and I wanted something a bit more subtle for the background. So, I smooshed glossy cardstock into the ink and then smooshed that ink-covered paper into another piece of glossy cardstock. This created a second generation of ink that’s also got a bit of texture as well. I let the paper dry a few minutes before moving on.
My next step was to stamp the outline leaves from the new Be Leaf Me stamp set in Simon’s Dark Chocolate dye ink. Simon dye inks are waterproof and alcohol ink friendly, which makes them perfect to use with these inks.
After stamping the leaves, I applied alcohol inks into a palette and used a water brush filled with 91% alcohol to paint the leaves with a mixture of the same inks used in the background.
Once I had the leaves colored in, I added splatter/droplet layers using a mix of 91% alcohol, Alcohol Inks (in the same three colors used throughout the background) and Tim Holtz Ranger Distress Mica Spray. The alcohol products all dry really quickly which makes creating a background like this take very little time!
The final steps I took to finish this card was to add a sentiment (using both the Be Leaf Me stamp set and the Autumn Blessings die), as well as layering the background panel onto some colored cardstocks that matched the colors I used. I also tied a bit of hemp and adhered a little acorn embellishment on top.
I hope this has given you some inspiration for how you can use the Be Leaf Me exclusive from Simon Says Stamp and Altenew! Be sure to pick up your copy of this special exclusive, as there is only a limited quantity available and once they are gone, they won’t be restocked. You can purchase the stamp set HERE.

Nina your cards are beautiful. I have a question. Where do you purchase your linen card stock? What color do you purchase. TIA.
Hi JoAnn! Thank you so much for your kind comment! I get my linen cardstocks at Paper and More and I choose both the bright white (100 sheet ream of 80lb cardstock), as well as the natural cream color (also 100 sheet ream, 80lb). Hope that helps! You can find them both here:
