Newton’s Nook Designs Reveal Day #1

Happy Wednesday everyone! Welcome to day #1 of the Newton’s Nook January release week; we are going to be revealing some great new products over the next couple of days, so I hope you’ll stick around and hop along with us for lots of great inspiration and fun!

Today’s reveal features the adorable Hoppy Days stamp set… this set can be used for a variety of occasions including birthdays, Valentine’s Day and more! For my card, I’ve chosen to use this set to create a birthday card featuring a technique I like to call “spotlight scenes”.

I stamped the frog included in this set, as well as some hearts from the Newton’s Naptime set onto some cardstock before coloring everything with Copic markers. I then fussy cut the frog out and die cut the hearts using the coordinating die set.

My scene is created with a Grassy Hills die from My Favorite Things and clouds from Lawn Fawn’s Spring Showers set, all layered onto a Stitched Circle from Simon Says Stamp. I colored the sky and grass with distress and dye inks (Mowed Lawn, Twisted Citron and Squeezed Lemonade for the grass; Ocean Waves and Tumbled Glass for the sky).

Layering the scene up onto the circle creates the “spotlight” effect; in most scenes you would imagine having taking up the entire front of the card. However, when the scene is enclosed into a small area (circular or not), it draws your eye right into the picture… sometimes more impacting than a full-card scene!

For the background of this jumping frog scene, I kept it simple and stamped a woodgrain pattern onto white cardstock, using a second generation of Pumice Stone distress ink.

To finish everything off, I added Glossy Accents to the hearts and tied pink and red baker’s twine around the bottom of the card.
