Sequins & Sparkles
Hi! I’m back again to share the other cupcake card I mentioned in my previous post, “Celebrate Always“.
I thought it would be so much fun to use some sequins to be the toppings on my cupcake… kind of like it is covered in big sprinkles! :) The Birthday Wishes Cupcake stamp from Pebbles was perfect for this, as all my sequins fit inside the icing perfectly!
I began by stamping my cupcake onto some cardstock three times; one for the wrapper, another for the icing and the third for the base for my paper piecing. I also stamped the cherry from an American Crafts cupcake stamp onto the cardstock as well. I colored the cherry, and the cupcake wrapper using Derwent watercolor pencils. I then fussy cut all the images out.
With my iridescent sequins, I completely covered my icing and then paper pieced all my fussy cut images to the base cupcake. I covered the cupcake wrapper with some Wink of Stella glitter, and the cherry with some Glossy Accents.
I cut a 3″ by 4 1/4″ panel from watercolor paper and stamped the words “make a wish” using the Penny Black Inc “Sweet and Cute” stamp set. I also used my Derwent pencils to add a bit of ground for my cupcake, and scored a frame around the edges of the panel with my scoring board; some Wink of Stella glitter is applied over top the frame.
My panel is layered onto some scalloped vellum paper, and adhered to my card base with foam tape. The striped paper behind the panel is made from some Cotton Candy cardstock by Simon Says Stamp, and masked/inked with white pigment ink to create the stripes.I added some more Wink of Stella to the darker stripes, and drew some faux stitching around all the edges of the card base. Finally, my cupcake was adhered to the main panel with some foam tape for a bit of added dimension.
I love how pretty the sequins look on top of the icing! It added a great bit of interest to the cupcake, rather than simply being made from flat paper.
I hope you’ve enjoyed and I am so happy you stopped by! Happy creating!
