Pretty & Perfect

Happy Wednesday! Today I have a sparkly, feminine card that I created for a special friend, and could be used for a variety of occasions… this card also features a fun watercolor technique, so be sure to continue reading!

I really love using Heidi Swapp color shines on my cards… the colors are so vibrant and bold, and best of all, they sparkle! :)  When creating this card, I thought it would be fun to use the color shines as my “watercolor” medium, so I chose two sprays (Sweet Cherry and Primrose), and poured small puddles of each onto a mixing palette.

Creating an A2 sized watercolor card base, I rounded the corners with a corner punch, and stamped the shoe using the Imaginisce “Slipper” stamp with some StazOn Jet Black ink before beginning my watercoloring.

When coloring with the sprays, you need only a damp brush to maintain the vibrancy of the color. An oversaturated brush will result in a more diluted color because the color shines already have a wet consistency to them. I used the Sweet Cherry spray on the outside of the shoe, and for the inside I used the Primrose. I also watercolored the “ground” under the shoe with some Iced Spruce distress ink. I love how juicy these color shines are!

Next, I stamped my sentiment from the Heidi Swapp “September Skies” set in StazOn Jet Black ink and heat embossed the word “pretty” with Stampendous “Champagne” (gold) embossing powder.

Using the American Crafts “Serendipity” set I stamped the scallop border with some Doll Pink dye ink, and the hearts with the Delicata “Golden Glitz” ink. I also masked off an area above the scalloped and inked it with the same gold ink.

I added some Glossy Accents over top of the red part of the shoe, and one dry, I drew on some white dot details with a gel pen. Finally, I tied a black and white length of baker’s twine around the bottom of the card.
