Wintry Thoughts

Happy Friday!

Now that the holidays have past, everyone has turned towards Valentine’s day and spring… but let’s not forget that we are not even halfway through a very beautiful season; winter. I love the wintertime… yes it is cold, but the snow is so beautiful and makes the chilly days worth having! :)

To celebrate this snowy time of year, I’ve created this richly-toned winter “thinking of you” card that is perfect for sending warm thoughts to a friend.

My card layout was inspired by this week’s Muse project by Marion Vagg for the Muse Challenge #101. Her one layer card consisted of a simple design embossed across the bottom third of the card; with that in mind, I decided to create a one layer, inked background card, utilizing some embossed elements as well.

I began by stamping my snowflakes with Versamark ink and white embossing powder onto watercolor paper. The stamps I selected were from the “Build a Snowman” set by Stampendous and the “Winter Wonderland” set by Recollections.

Once my snowflakes were embossed, I took some Tim Holtz distress inks (Dusty Concord, Milled Lavender, Faded Jeans and Broken China, an ink blending tool and some sticky notes to add the inked background behind the snowflakes. I tore the edges of the sticky notes to create uneven edges, and masked off the area where I was going to be adding the ink. Once the ink was sponged onto my paper, I misted it with some water to allow for a bit more blending.

I next took three Heidi Swapp Color Shines (Mint, Amethyst, and Tinsel, and flicked on droplets of color. I let the color sit on the paper for a short time, before blotting it up with a clean cloth.

The sentiment I chose for this card is from the Simon Says Stamp “Sending Happy Thoughts” stamp set, and is stamped in Versamark ink and heat embossed with some Amethyst embossing powder by Stampendous. Love that rich purple!

Finally, I finished off this clean and simple card with some Glossy Accents on some of the ink spots, as well as some sequins from Doodlebug.
