Today is the day – Tim Holtz has just revealed his newest Distress Color, Kitsch Flamingo! I spent the weekend playing with the new color and pairing it with some other Valentine-y colors, such as Wilted Violet, Picked Raspberry and Festive Berries. I had fun using some of my favorite Distress techniques, 5 of which I will be sharing in this tutorial!
The video explains the techniques in detail and just a quick overview of the cards I created.
Distress Oxide ink smooshing on alcohol ink cardstock is such a fun and unique way to create vibrant backgrounds. The key to the vibrancy? Distress Micro Glaze! This card also features the Pawsome Love stamp and die set, Reverse Slimline Love sentiment strips, Nested Hearts dies, and Mini Hearts Party die cut from Red Holographic cardstock.
I ink blended Simon’s Bursting Hearts stencil onto this slimline card with Distress Inks – Wilted Violet, Picked Raspberry and of course Kitsch Flamingo! The glitter paste overlay creates a striking, sparkly finish on top of these floating hearts! On this card I also used the Dial Phone die, Sorbet Thickers, and some Mini Hearts Party die cuts.
If you want to add some pizzaz to your ink blending, one of my favorite techniques is to add paste over top! Here I applied Gina K. Designs Iridescent Glitz Glitter Gel over the blending which gives a really soft, magical look. In addition, I also embossed my sentiment with the Kitsch Flamingo embossing glaze! The card features the Butterfly Love stencil, Hugs die, Thinking of You sentiment strips, plus sequins from Simon’s Cupcake Frosting and Hearts Party mixes.
Finally, I had to play so more with a bit of ink blending! This time I used the Circle Masks stencil set from Simon and the Distress Ink colors I’ve been using throughout my other projects. The Distress Inks layered together beautifully and I love way the circles overlap. You’ll notice some splatters on this card – I used the Distress Spray Stain for that! It provides great texture. For sentiments I used the XL Greetings stamp and die set, plus a sentiment strip from the Reverse Love pack. Sequins continue the circle theme, which are from the Strawberry Shortcake mix.
I made even more backgrounds and panels with this Kitsch Flamingo color – so many that I didn’t have time to turn them all into cards! I’ll be finishing them up another time, but I had so much fun creating and experimenting with the new Distress Color. I hope you enjoyed my ideas and techniques – the video explains the techniques in detail, so that is definitely worth watching if you want to learn more.
Speaking of learning more – Tim Holtz hosted a great YouTube Live showcasing the new Distress color! Be sure to check that out for an even further, in-depth look at what this color brings to the Distress line!
