Mixed Media Inspired Cardmaking + Hop
Hello friends! I have something a bit outside of my norm to share with you today, which is a card I created that was inspired by mixed media! I admire mixed media tremendously and love playing with it here and there. When I got some of the new Jane Davenport and Spellbinders Artomology and Making Faces release products, I knew I wanted to give those mixed media techniques a work out!
Today’s post is also part of the new Spellbinders and Jane Davenport release blog hop! All the hop details are down at the bottom of this post.
The first thing I did when designing this card was to make the background. Using Jane Davenport’s Mineral Eyes Pastels set, I watercolored a series of streaks across the paper. Once that dried, I sporadically applied Vicki Boutin’s Iridescent Glitter Paste with a palette knife, just to get some random areas of texture and sparkle; I adore that chunky, fractal finish on the paste!!
I let that background completely dry before adhering a Holo Waves Mirror Cardstock cutout of the Jane Davenport Tousled die over top; the large size of this girl makes for a stunning focal point! Using the Silky Skin ColorStick Crayons and a Baton Blender, I added areas of blush to her cheeks and some texture to her hair for a bit of contrast. These coloring crayons are great for layering onto backgrounds like this because the soft texture allows for easy blending.
To finish off the card, I added a sentiment from the Free Spirit stamp set and a few colorful sequins from the Simon Says Stamp Groovy mix.
I really love how this card came together and how it features so many textures, surfaces, metallics, foils and more. I hope it inspires you to try out some or all of the techniques, as well as the new Artomology and Making Faces products from Jane Davenport and Spellbinders!
Thanks so much for visiting me today; I will be back again soon with more to share!
