Some Bunny’s Love

Happy Monday!

I’m stopping by today with a fun little card full of bright, happy colors and the adorable, warm smile of a bunny… perfect for sending to someone who needs a bit of cheering up!

The bunny featured on my card is one of the sweet digi stamps over at LiaStampz… I simply adore this cozy little critters face and knew I wanted to create something very happy with this one. :)

Starting off with my background, I used three different colors of distress ink to create the watercolor splash behind the bunny; Wild Honey, Peacock Feathers, and Worn Lipstick. I first applied a wash of clean water to the area in which my color was going to be placed; I was very generous with the amount of water used, as I really wanted the colors to blend as much as possible. Once the water was applied to my paper, I loaded my brush up with water once again, dipped it into some of the ink I had applied to a acrylic block, and began randomly dropping the ink into the water-cover areas of my paper. I let the water do most of the work, and only pushed the colors around as needed.

Once I was happy with the color placement, I took my heat gun and dried my paper, making sure to push ink around as I dried; this helps blend the colors together even more. Once my paper was dry, I then took my ink blending tool and the same distress inks and deepened some of the colors a bit. With a bit of water spritzed in my hand, I flicked droplets of onto the color area and quickly blotted them up with a rag, creating a water spot effect.

To create the flecks of color speckled around my background, I loaded my wet paintbrush with Worn Lipstick distress ink and flicked it onto the paper; I then repeated this step using Wild Honey ink. Then, with two bottles of spray ink (Mint and Gold), I applied splashes of these beautiful shimmery colors onto the background as well.

For this card, I wanted the bunny to have a bit of texture, so using a gray rose pattern, I printed the digi stamp onto my paper and fussy cut her out. Adding some details to her, I applied “blush” to her cheeks, ears and belly with Worn Lipstick ink and a piece of felt; I also whitened up her tail with a gel pen, and added some shadows for depth using a gray pencil. The balloon was printed and cut out as well in a confetti patterned paper.

Finally, before putting everything together, the sentiment was added to my background panel. The sentiment is included in the LiaStampz bunny file, and I imported it into my Silhouette Studio so that I could sketch it out with a black multi-liner.
