Holly Jolly Christmas

Penguins don’t get used enough during the holidays… and they are so cute too! There are many stamp sets out there with cute penguins in them. Some of my favorites are Mama Elephant’s “Arctic Penguins“, “Winter Pals” from Wplus9, the “Winter Friends” stamp set from Some Odd Girl, and Penny Black’s “Cold Nose Warm Heart“, just to name a few.
I also love this adorable little penguin stamp from Studio G, with his little Santa’s hat and and oh-so-happy expression (why is it that the “mouthless” critters always have the cutest faces?!?).
This was a really fun card to make… I like how the bright colors and simple design pair so nicely together. The penguin is colored with a combination of distress inks and Prismacolor pencils; the pencils were used along the very edges of the penguin, to add some depth to him. Once dry, the penguin was then cut out and set aside.
I next went to work on the background behind the penguin… I first stamped a bunch of little snowflakes around the 3 1/4″ 4 1/2″ panel with Versamark ink and white embossing powder. Once heat set, I then took some Broken China distress ink and an ink blending tool and brushed some color onto the panel along the very bottom. I did not want the blue of the sky to be too overpowering, so adding it along the bottom only worked perfectly.

My card base is created from white cardstock, cut to 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, and scored at the 4 1/4″ mark. The white embossed snowflakes are made from the same stamps used for my background and ties everything in very nicely. I love how clean and simple this card is… and so “jolly” too! :)
