Release day for the new Tim Holtz Distress Color is always exciting, and I’m thrilled to showcase the latest addition to the color family–Prize Ribbon! I decided to showcase this stunning new blue by using the Distress Ink pad and Distress Spray Stain. I paired it with a few other Distress Inks–Wilted Violet, Chipped Sapphire, Black Soot, and Salvaged Patina–and I’m using an ink smooshing and embossing folder technique. The embossing folder I used is a newer one from Simon Says Stamp!
The ink smooshing technique is an easy one that creates unexpected results. It’s a technique I play with a lot, both on and off camera. Sometimes when I want to be creative but not make a card, I ink smoosh. I have a huge collection of backgrounds I’ve made, which I will reach for as either inspiration for a new project, or to use on a card.
The Wildflower Field embossing folder from Simon Says Stamp is a gorgeous, detailed folder. I thought the colors of the ink smooshing would pair well with the design. I also used Simon’s Small Script Trio die set and Slimline Florals stamps to create my sentiment.
Inside the shaker are a combination of Night Sky and Moonshine sequins from Simon, as well as a floral sequin pack that I had in my stash; Simon has some great floral sequins options if you don’t have some like the ones I used.
This edge-to-edge shaker turned out so beautiful and I LOVE how the new Prize Ribbon color just shines across the background! Be sure to check out the new color from Tim Holtz!

so very gorgeous!!
Hi! What a gorgeous card! I have never made a shaker card. This color is gorgeous and I love the different colors together!
One question, are you using an acrylic sheet to cover your card? Is it quite substantial or does it have some bend to it? Thank you so much!
Hi Nina!
You make this look so easy!! I love the way you smoosh and this card is gorgeous! Thanks for sharing!
What do you use for your acetate for the shaker?
Absolutely gorgeous–I love the new controlled ink smooshing with embossing! Awesome!
What a show-stopper! Amazing technique, lovely, lovely card.
This card was amazing and beautiful. I haven’t tried any ink smooshing but think I will give it a try. Love the new ink color. Also, I have so many embossing folders and never seem to use them. Great idea and just lovely.
