Frustrations with Foam Tape? This is my Cutting Trick for Sticky Foam Tape!

If you know me, you know how much I love foam tape and how often I use it! As my friend Laura Bassen once said, “Dimension is life”! I agree 100% with that statement!
BUT… recently I purchased more of my beloved 3M foam tape, only to discover it was no longer the same as it once was. Basically – without going into too much detail – the foam itself is thinner and more airy. Coupled with a stickier adhesive on the foam, it makes this tape hard to cut into custom strips and sizes. 3M has permanently changed their tape, so more than likely, you’ll start running into this new tape if you haven’t already.
Not to be deterred, I played around and came up with a solution to save myself from having adhesive stuck to my scissors as I cut it. Watch the video to learn what I did!
Fun side note: one of my cats, Thomas, insisted on being part of my photo shoot for this tutorial! :)

I have one of the new rolls and I hate it. In the past I used it mostly for card making and with items that I wanted to give a ‘raised’ effect to. It’s so spongy and thin now that it takes at least three layers to do the same as I used to do with one. Why change a great product? I won’t be buying it again. Thanks for the tips.
Thomas knows his job! lol
Perfect article with useful and informative content!! This will help many people.
Pest control management software wouldn’t be complete without the support of your favorite bookkeeping tools.
Oh my goodness!!
Thank you so very much!
The latest (generic not 3m) tape I bought is thick, sticky and unhelpful in the extreme. I was afraid I was going to have to throw it away and do without ‘dimension’. Oh, the horror!
This strategy is just amazing, and well done you for figuring it out!
Thanks!
Thanks, Nina! Such a simple solution but I’m not sure how long it would have taken me to come up with it. I haven’t run across this new version of the 3M tape yet but I’m sure I will eventually. Thanks for saving me a lot of frustration.
