Watercoloring with a Stencil [Featuring Simon’s Crafty Hugs Release]
Have you ever tried watercoloring with a stencil? This is such a great way to stretch your supplies and get more use out of those amazing stencils we all have!
The stencil I’m featuring today is the new Radiating Hearts stencil, which is from Simon Says Stamp’s Crafty Hugs collection – just revealed today!
The other cool technique I used in this project is stencil shifting. Shifting your stencil lets you repeat the pattern, overlapping it with the stencil pattern you applied before it. In this case, I rotated the hearts so that the Iridescent Glitz Glitter Gel I applied through the stencil overlaps with the watercolored hearts. This provides a stunning visual effect!
Also part of the new Crafty Hugs release is the Hexagon Greetings stamp and die set, which I used for the sentiment on my card. I also added embellishments from the Rainbow Party sequin mix.
If you haven’t tried this technique already, I hope you will give watercoloring with your stencils a try! You’ll discover so many new ways to reuse stencils you’ve previously purchased, as well as new stencils like this Radiating Hearts design!

This is a beautiful card, I love the watercoloring. Would this work with water color pencils? I am new to card making and never have been good at watercoloring, but I do like to work with water color pencils
Yes! You should have no trouble recreating this technique with watercolor pencils! :)
Awesome card Nina-Marie. I want to order the stencil to try your technique. Thank you for the video.
