Loose Ombre Watercolor Featuring Simon Says Stamp
Hello crafters! I am back after a bit of time to bring you some fresh inspiration – stay tuned to my blog and YouTube channel because I’ve got quite a bit more upcoming!
Before I get to the festive Christmas card I made for you, I wanted to update you on why I’ve been so quiet over the past month, as many of you were asking. I took some time off from my blog and social media sites a bit unexpectedly this past October due to the fact that I moved to a different location on the Cape. As you all know, moving brings its challenges of not just living in boxes, but also unforeseen circumstances. After moving, it was discovered that my new house did not have access to cable and internet; talk about a challenge! So for the past few weeks I have been without internet – and of course trying to unpack my studio and get it back into a fully-functional state. This week I’m happy to say, internet installation was completed and I am now looking forward to bringing you frequent videos and tutorials again!
Okay, let’s get onto the card, shall we?
I love this Candy Cane Background from Simon Says Stamp! My friend Shari Carroll created this gorgeous stamp and I have been itching to watercolor it. Today’s design features a loose look to the watercoloring and I used Tim Holtz Distress Oxide inks. The loose style of watercolor is such an easy technique; even if you are new to watercoloring! Oxides are also water reactive, which makes them one of the easiest products to use for watercoloring.
I loved the texture in this background and the gorgeous glitter on all the white areas of the candy canes. Its kind of hard to capture the fine detail and sparkle of the glitter, but in real life this card literally shines!
I hope you will watch the video above to see how this card came together, and that it has inspired you to try this watercoloring technique yourself!
Thanks for tuning in today; I will be back again soon with more to share!
