28 Lilac Lane Blog Hop
Hey there friends! I am so happy you are joining me today as I take part in the 28 Lilac Lane blog hop that is happening this weekend!
I am so happy to be one of multiple stops in the hop; my friend May Flaum is the creator of 28 Lilac Lane and is the mastermind behind the gorgeous embellishment collections. So make sure you head down to the bottom of this post to see the complete list of stops. PLUS, when you leave a comment on this post -and on each stop in the hop- you have a chance to win one of the fabulous 28 Lilac Lane embellishment kits that are being given away!
Today I’ve used a couple of my favorite embellishment sets from 28 Lilac Lane; Tropical Twist and Pumpkin Spice, and I’ve used these kits to embellish some of the Simon Says Stamp summer watercolor printed cards! If you have been looking for 28 Lilac Lane kits, you can find them at Simon Says Stamp.
I actually took these coloring cards with me on vacation and colored them in while I enjoyed some relaxation! These are great for taking on the road because you can just pop these and a few coloring supplies into a bag, which is exactly what I did! When I got back I turned them into cards, but the bulk of the work was done away from my craft desk.
My first card features the fabulous palm tree, which I colored with Copic markers; I didn’t keep track of the color combinations on any of these cards, but you can easily replicate them by finding similar colors in your collections.
For the palm tree card I added texture many areas of the card using feathering and stippling; I also added details with my white gel pen and a Spectrum Noir sparkle brush. For the embellishments on this card, I used buttons and seed beads from the Pumpkin Spice embellishment bottle.
This second card makes me wish I was in Hawaii right now! I used Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers for this one, and colored in the wreath of pineapples using a variety of bright, tropical shades. After coloring this wreath, I fussy cut it from the card it was drawn onto (there was additional words to the sentiment underneath the wreath but I wanted just the words “aloha”). After fussy cutting the wreath, I layered it onto a white card base that I had applied a wave stencil pattern onto using natural distress ink colors.
For embellishments on this one, I used a bunch of seed beads and half pearls from the Tropical Twist kit, along with a bit of hemp tied across the top.
Finally, I have this super fun flip flop card! This one is my absolute favorite of them all I think… but it’s really hard to decide! This card is colored with Zig Clean Color markers as well, and I fussy cut both the flip flops and the sentiment from the watercolor card because I wanted to pop them up. They are popped up off of a white card base that I ink blended some yellow distress ink onto, which really sets off the colors in the flip flops perfectly!
To embellish this one, I used seed beads and sequins from the Tropical Twist kit, as well as lots of shimmer using my Spectrum Noir sparkle brush pen.
These cards were so much fun to create, and I love how taking the watercolor printables with me on my trip allowed me to get in some relaxing coloring time, which I could later use to create these three cards!
