Dimensional Die Cutting
Hello friends! Today I am sharing a card with you that features one of my current favorite Concord & 9th dies, A Friend Like You, and a dimensional die cutting technique!
I actually created this card quite a few weeks ago, but life kept getting in the way every time I tried to get it ready for posting… I figure that was God’s way of telling me I wasn’t supposed to post it yet. So now I am finally getting it up on my blog to share with all of you!
I love Concord & 9th’s beautiful A Friend Like You die set; the clean and simple font, paired with the fun border framing the sentiment is just a perfect match. And takes all the guess work of how to line up your sentiment because it’s all done for you! Pretty nifty, huh? I have made a few cards using this die set in the past, and I’ll share links to those posts at the bottom of this page.
For this card I wanted to create some dimension for the sentiment, so to do this I started off by watercoloring a bright wash using Winsor & Newton watercolors; I also added white dots using acrylic paint. I then used the A Friend Like You die to cut my sentiment out of this watercolor wash.
To achieve the dimension I was looking for, I adhered a piece of gold glitter cardstock behind the sentiment panel using foam tape. The recessed, dimensional result is simply stunning and the added glitter layered behind just makes it look even more pretty!
I then layered the die cut panel onto my card base, which was decorated with paint splatters (from the Winsor and Newton colors I had used on the panel), as well as Concord & 9th’s sequin strands. I wrapped the sequin strand around the card three times for a cute, sparkly band that matches my sentiment.
I also die cut the little brackets (included in the Concord & 9th A Friend Like You die) from white cardstock and adhered them onto the card base with a gold glitter heart embellishment.
And have you seen the newest Virginia’s View Challenge, All About Color? My sweet friend Virigina hosts this fabulous challenge blog and she’s so talented! I’m going to be entering this card into the challenge (which runs through the end of July), and I hope you’ll create something for it too! Full details, including the criteria for the challenge can be found at the Virginia’s View Challenge blog.
