Storybook Style Watercolor + Whimsy Stamps Reveal #1
Well hello everyone, thanks so much for joining me for day one of the Whimsy Stamps April release! I’m so excited to be able to share my newest stamps and dies with you, as well as inspiration on how to use them!
Today’s reveal showcases the cute Baby Animals stamps and coordinating dies. I love critters and creating this set was a lot of fun for me! This set works perfect for a variety of baby themed cards, and even cards for the expecting parents-to-be!
In my card I’ve used the little giraffe and created a “storybook” feel with watercolors, which makes this little guy look even cuter. I used Prima’s Watercolor Confections Decadent Pies paint set for the majority of the coloring; this set has 12 colors in it, all with in neutral, earthy tones. For additional shading and texture, I used Derwent watercolor pencils.
Storybook style coloring is captured in the imperfect, hard lines of the watercolors; earthy color tones help bring the classic, whimsical look to life… the charm is inside those little details!
The panel my giraffe is sitting on was die cut using the Nested Handstitched Rectangles dies, which I designed for the March Whimsy Stamps release. I used Canson XL watercolor paper and all my stamping was done with Simon Says Stamp Intense Black ink.
I also wanted to share how I created my card base, as unfortunately my battery died on my camera as I was filming this card and I did not realize it until after I had created it… I made my card base from some more Canson XL paper and did some ink smooshing with Scattered Straw distress ink. To add some more interest to the watercolor look of the background, I took some Fossilized Amber distress ink and flicked on some splatters of color; this gave the watercoloring a more organic feel, which I really like.
I love the look of ribbon on cards, especially for baby cards! The textured, yellow chevron ribbon from May Arts was a perfect embellishment for my card and I also scattered some Pretty Pink Posh Sparkling Clear sequins on as well.
So to see how I created this card, be sure to check out the video below, or over on my YouTube channel! If you enjoy, please give it a “thumbs up” and subscribe to my channel… I post new videos every week!
