Handlettered Sentiments + His & Her Cards
Happy Friday everyone! Today I have some fun cards to share with you featuring a watercolor brush-lettering technique, as well as some card ideas for both guys and girls!
I created two cards, each using a similar design, as I wanted to show you how you can alter your cards to fit either a male or female. But first, let me talk about the brush lettering…
For brush-lettering you can use whatever brushes you are comfortable with; I vary my brush choice depending on the project and today I am using a large, round waterbrush. You can also use whatever paint or ink medium you like best, but for this particular project, I’m using the new Watercolor Confections paint sets from Prima.
These paint sets are very pigmented and are right now my current favorite for watercoloring. I love that they come in little palette tins, as they are perfect for not only taking on the go, but also great for storing.
In today’s video I’m going to quickly show you how I do my brush-letting and hopefully it will help you out when you try it at home! You can watch it below or over on my YouTube channel. If you enjoy, don’t forget to give it a thumbs up and subscribe! :)
So now that you’ve seen the brush-letting, let’s take a look at the finished cards…
My first one is geared to be more “guy-ish” with a blue to purple color scheme and a geometric design. I used distress inks and made my own circle “stencils” by die cutting some cardstock with circle dies from Simon Says Stamp. The background stamping on all of these cards were done with a Simon Says Stamp Lattice Grid cling stamp.
I love adding sequins to my cards and because I wanted to keep this more appealing towards a guy’s taste, I chose some simple satin sequins from Pretty Pink Posh to scatter around the sentiment. The sequins are Marshmallow, Winter Snow, Amethyst and Sugar Plum.
To finish off the “hello” sentiment, I heat embossed an “I miss you” from the Simon Says Stamp Dexter and Simon set onto black cardstock. I then trimmed it down to make a faux label.
This second card is in the same style, but slightly different and geared towards a girl. Most girls love sparkles and glitter, so this one of course features lots of that! :)
Instead of creating a simple panel like I did for the previous card, this time I made a shaker-well for the hello to sit on. I filled it with lots of sparkly Pretty Pink Posh sequins and confetti pieces and love how the colors match the sentiment so nicely. The sequins I used for this one are Sunshine Glow, Ballerina Pink, Orchid, Sparkling Clear, Mini Silver Stars, Amethyst and Pink Blush.
For sparkle, I used some clear Wink of Stella glitter over top the brush-lettering… one can never have too much shimmer in their life! :)
