Newton’s Nook Designs Reveal Day #2

Hello everyone! Welcome to day #2 of the January release week for Newton’s Nook Designs! Today we are showcasing the adorable Darling Duos stamp set and the coordinating Darling Hearts die set.

So for today’s reveal, I have created a set of Valentines that are easy to mass produce for sending to all your loved ones using both the Darling Duos stamps and the Darling Hearts dies.

To create the backgrounds for my cards, I used Tim Holtz distress inks and ink smooshed the color onto my watercolor paper. Once I had ink smooshed my colors onto the background, I flicked on a bit of Heidi Swapp gold color shine to add some additional sparkle.

For those of you new to the “ink smooshing” technique, you’ll find it’s a very easy way to create beautiful watercolored backgrounds on your projects. I have a You Tube playlist on my channel (visit this link) or you can watch the entire playlist below:

My watercolor panels (a total of four) were die cut from a stitched rectangle die and I matted each of them on top of gold glitter cardstock.

I chose to use the birds from Darling Duos, but you could use any of the images included in this stamp set to replicate this design. I simply stamped them onto cardstock, colored them with Copic markers and fussy cut around the images with fine tip scissors and a craft knife.

I then layered my birds (with foam tape) onto a vellum heart, which is die cut using the Darling Hearts set. The vellum heart helps soften the background around the birds and lets them pop off the background nicely.

Finally, to finish the cards off, I added a simple sentiment using the love die cut from the Darling Hearts set and cut four of them from glitter cardstock (one for each card in the set).

These are very easy cards to make multiples of and I made all four of them in under an hour… perfect for making a few Valentines or even just a cute card set to give as a gift to someone!
