Altering Die Cuts

Hello there everyone! I’m so excited to share a card with you today for the Virginia’s View Glitter Challenge, featuring one of my newest stamp sets for Simon Says Stamp! 

As many of you know, back in September Simon Says Stamp revealed the new best friend of their mascot, Simon… the new BFF was Dexter, an adorable spotted pig with a BIG personality! I had designed the inaugural stamp set and this newest Simon and Dexter set is a new addition to the BFF line!

Today I have used the tree and ornaments included in the set to create this fun and whimsical Christmas card that also features a great way to alter your die cuts to stretch their use a bit further!

You’ll notice the glittery “merry” sentiment that is dancing across the snowy hill of the card… I created this using the Merry Die-namics die from My Favorite Things. Normally the die would be used to create a window effect on your card fronts, but I instead trimmed the letters out to be stand-alone die cuts that could be used in lots more ways! Here, I’ve popped them up off the card front to create a fun and striking sentiment.

I stamped the images from the Simon & Dexter Christmas set onto white cardstock and colored them in with Copic markers. Most of the coloring on the images is pretty simple, but for those of you who might be interested in the colors used on the tree they are: Yg21, YG06, G07, G28, Y21, YR23, E35, E33 and E47 (all colors use in the card are linked in the product description too).

The background…  I just LOVE how it turned out! I used the Lawn Fawn Snowy Backdrops set and gold heat embossed the background. I then layered vellum overtop and added gold star sequins from both Pretty Pink Posh and the Ton Stamps.  Some enamel accents is also applied onto the vellum as well.

And of course, a winter scene is not complete without some snowy hills! The hills are die cut from Lawn Fawn’s Stitched Hillside borders die set and I added shading on top using Copic markers.
