Baby Bird

Hello everyone, so glad you’ve stopped by!

Today I have a baby card to share with you, featuring a coloring technique that is partly inspired by my friend Maria Sabina. Maria does wonderful work with Inktense pencils, creating extremely intriguing and beautiful images that have amazed me.

Recently Maria shared a video showing how she achieves this look, and it inspired me to create the shading that I have done on my card today. Be sure to head on over to Maria’s blog and check out her creations!

So for my card today, I’ve chosen to work with this cute little bird from the Lia Stampz Woodland’s digi stamp set, and I’ve used multiple shades of purple Derwent watercolor pencils to add my shading. I then fussy cut my image out, leaving a white border around the bird.

On an A2 card base, I stamped the sentiment ‘Welcome Baby’ using the Simon Says Stamp “Celebrate” stamp set. The inks I used for stamping were Tim Holtz Worn Lipstick distress ink and StazOn Jet Black ink. I then took the Simon Says Stamp “Soaring for You” set and stamped the hearts using some purple pigment ink and Worn Lipstick distress ink.

I wanted to emboss a subtle texture into my card, so I took a chevron stencil and ran it through my Big Shot machine, and then inked the edges of the card with some Spun Sugar distress ink. I also embossed two frames around the edges of the card with my scoring board, covering the frames with some Wink of Stella glitter.

For a few finishing touches, I added some Wink of Stella glitter to the bird, as well as a bit of Glossy Accents on the little hearts and the bird’s eyes.
