Big Cheese Birthday
Happy Wednesday!
Thanks for stopping by today! I was really inspired by this week’s CASology “Mini” challenge, and thought it would be fun to create a clean and simple mini birthday card using a mini stamp!
I really liked the little mouse stamp in the Newton’s Nook “Just Say Cheese” stamp set, and thought he would look so cute to have a speech bubble above him with a piece of cheese inside… kind of like he is dreaming of a nice, big piece of cheese for his birthday. Taking it one step further, I decided to turn the speech bubble into a shaker window, and have the cheese floating around inside!
So opening up my Silhouette Studio, I created a loose oval and polygon. I did not build the shapes to any particular size, and did not concentrate on keeping the lines of the polygon equal; I felt the looser shape helped lend towards a better speech bubble.
Once I had my two shapes built, I overlapped and welded them together before cutting the bubble out of my watercolor card base, which is sized to 3 1/4″ by 4 1/2″.
I started off by stamping my mouse in the bottom corner of my card, and the cheese on a separate piece of watercolor paper; both stamps are from the “Just Say Cheese” stamp set. I colored them in with watercolor pencils, blending the colors together with my water brush. I also took a black multiliner and drew the little exclamatory “feelings” above the mouse, as well as sketching around the speech bubble to give it some definition.
With some Wild Honey distress ink and some Perfect Pearls, I mixed up a shimmery watercolor and flicked ink splatters onto the card, focusing them as best as I could in the areas of my main elements.
I then punched out some confetti circles from Orange Peel, Sunshine and Audrey Blue cardstock, covering some of the circles with Wink of Stella clear glitter, and others leaving the others plain. I also covered the cheese with Wink of Stella, before putting all of these pieces inside my shaker card.
To finish everything off, I tied a length of blue and white bakers twine around the top of the card, and stamped “Happy Birthday Big Cheese” on the inside. The sentiment is from the same Newton’s Nook “Just Say Cheese” stamp set.
And because I love doing it, I also created a custom envelope using the We R Memory Keepers envelope punch board and stamped the cheese and the words “big cheese” on the left corner of the envelope.
I loved how silly this card is, and the mini aspect of it all makes it so cute! I hope you’ve enjoyed and that you too will be inspired to create a mini card of your own!
Have a happy day! :)
