Love Mew
Hello Everyone!
Even though Valentine’s day is since past, the act of sending notes of love and care to all our special people in our lives are should continue throughout the entire year! And today I have a sweet mini card to share with you, featuring a pair of adorable cats from the Newton’s Nook “Newton’s Antics” stamp set.
This one layer paper pieced card was created by first watercoloring two pieces of watercolor paper with Tim Holtz distress inks. These watercolor pieces are going to be used as the bodies of out cats. For the pink cat I used a mixture of Worn Lipstick, Spun Sugar and Festive Berries. For the blue cat, I used Peacock Feathers, Evergreen Bough and Broken China. When doing this step, I watercolored a bigger area than what I ended up using on purpose; this way if I made a mistake, I did not have to repeat the watercoloring all over again. I added ink splatters using Heidi Swapp color shine on each paper as well; for the pink cat I used Gold Lame, and for the blue cat I used Mint Green.
Once my watercolored papers were completely dry, I brought in the cat pair stamp from the “Newton’s Antics” stamp set, and stamped the cat on each paper in StazOn Timber Brown ink. I then fussy cut each cat out, and set them aside.
When I did my watercolored papers for the cats bodies, I also watercolored a small scrap of paper with some Spun Sugar ink. Once dry, I stamped the cat image onto this paper as well, and fussy cut the inner part of the ears out. I then edged all my fussy cut images with a black brush marker, just to help finish them off and give a nice clean edge.
I created a 4″ square (folded) card base from some kraft colored cardstock, and stamped my cats once again onto the center of the card. This is my guide for putting the paper piecing together. I then stamped the sentiment “loves mew” onto the card with some Versamark ink and heat embossed it with white embossing powder.
I then began adhering all my fussy cut images onto the card with some matte adhesive, being careful to make sure all was lined up inside the guide I had stamped on the card. I punched out some gold hearts from some glitter paper, and adhered those to my card as well, above the cats.
With a white gel pen, I added some dots in a semi-diagonal pattern, just to help tie the images together, and I also drew the sketchy frame around the card. I then took a brown mulitliner, and sketched a little bit of a shadow underneath the cats to ground them a bit. And for an extra detail, I added some Glossy Accents to the gold hearts as well.
Finally, with my envelope punch board from We R Memory Keepers, I created a custom envelope from some pink heart paper I had in my stash. I loved how the hearts were big enough to fit the little paw print that is included in the “Newton’s Antics” stamp set, so I took some pink pigment ink and stamped it all over the hearts on the envelope.
So that completes the card! I hope you’ve enjoyed and that it has inspired you to create some fun love-themed notes for a special someone in your life!
Happy Creating!
