So Happy For You
Hello Everyone!
Today I am here to share a sweet little baby card, perfect for the expecting parents-to-be!
The colors for my card are inspired by the My Favorite Things Color Challenge #14 and I paired them up with the mouse stamp from the Penny Black Sweet & Cute set. I love this mouse sitting on the moon, fishing for stars… now how adorable is that?!
It seemed fitting to have a dark night sky behind him, so to create the effect, I began by spritzing a few drops of Mint Heidi Swapp color shine onto a 3 3/4″ square piece of watercolor paper. With a clean paint brush, I then covered the entire paper with a wash of water, letting the Color Shine mix around on my paper with the water. Doing this allows the paper to have a bit of a shimmery, minty tint.
Once my paper was coated with the water, I applied purply-blue wash of watercolor using Faded Jeans, Dusty Concord, Milled Lavender and Broken China distress inks; all four of these inks were laid onto a non-stick craft sheet, and loosely mixed together before applying the color to my paper.
After the first coat of color was applied, I dried the ink with my heat tool and came back again with more color. This time, I used Evergreen Bough, Dusty Concord and Broken China and with a wet, ink loaded brush, flicked the color onto the paper before drying it into the paper with my heat gun. I then flicked some clean water onto the background and dabbed it up with a dry cloth.
My mouse and moon were colored with distress inks as well (Iced Spruce, Black Soot, Tattered Rose, Antique Linen and Wild Honey) on another piece of watercolor paper, before fussy cutting them out and adhering them to the background panel.
The moon and stars are covered with some Wink of Stella glitter, and Glossy Accents to add a bit of shine and shimmer… Twinkle, twinkle little star…! :) I also covered all of the water spots with the Wink of Stella glitter, to make them appear as if they are stars in the far of distance, or galaxies…
The background is layered atop some patterned papers, a strip of vellum and some sheer ribbon and yellow baker’s twine.
And then finally, the inside…
I found that the “we’re so happy for you both” sentiment from the Simon Says Stamp “Married” set, worked perfectly for this card, since it is for the parents-to-be. I stamped both the sentiment and the stars (from the same mouse stamp used on the from) in Jet Black StazOn ink, and watercolored the stars in Wild Honey and Antique Linen distress inks. The stars are also covered in the Wink of Stella and Glossy Accents, just as I did on the front.
Thank you so much for stopping by… I hope you’ve enjoyed this little tutorial for today! Happy Creating! :)

I am oh so seriously impressed with your inky ways, Nina-Marie. You almost inspire me to get messy. Almost. HA!
This card is so very adorable! Yes, that mouse is the cutest and the starry background you created is fantastic! Thank you for playing along with the MFT Color Challenge!
