Textured Foiling

Well hello there! I’m so happy you’ve stopped by today, as I am sharing a fun technique I have come up with that I call “textured foiling”.

Foiling is a big trend right now, and I wanted to incorporate some foiling in this card I was making. I applied 1/4″ ScorTape onto the kraft card base  and laid some gold Thermoweb DecoFoil overtop; I then ran it through my laminator.

For foiling, I used a parchment paper carrier sheet (parchment paper that you would use for baking; if you don’t have parchment paper though, you could use a piece of printer paper). However, because the rest of this card has a very rustic/earthy color scheme and feel to it, the shiny gloss of the foiling clashed with everything else in my opinion.

So then I went to work on figuring out a way to make that foil match the rest of my card…

I took a clean, soft cloth and began buffing the foiled paper with the cloth. I used light, circular motions to prevent from ripping the foil off the paper. Once the foil was completely buffed, I took a gold Delicata ink pad and added some inking along the edges to achieve a more distressed feel; you could also use distress inks in some earthy browns such as Vintage Photo, Ground Espresso or Walnut Stain too for a slightly different feel.

I love the way the foiling ended up turning out! It matches the rest of the card perfectly and adds a nice bit of shine to the card without being too distracting.

The images I have used on my card are all stamps from Newton’s Nook Designs; the adorable snowman and cat image is part of the Newton’s Curious Christmas set, which is one of my current favorite Christmas stamp sets. All of the other stamped elements are from Newton’s Nook stamp sets as well, and I have them linked below in the products section of this post.

I colored the images with Copic markers, and then did some die cutting to create a scene for these critters. The trees are die cut using the Simon Says Stamp and Pretty Pink Posh STAMPtember Darling Friends stamp set; since this is no longer available, I would suggest using the Lawn Fawn Yeti, Set Go die set because the tree dies in that set are pretty similar.

For some finishing touches on the card, I used Wink of Stella clear glitter on the snow, the scarf of the snowman and also the presents. I added some additional snow to the card using Ranger white enamel accents, which is one of my most favorite products to use for adding snow!
