Newton’s Nook Reveal Day #3 – Newton’s Christmas Cuddles

Hello, and welcome to day three of the Newton’s Nook Designs October reveal week! This week is full of fabulous inspiration to help get you in the holiday spirit!

For my card, I wanted to create a night scene; I thought it would be fun to make a large moon to be backlighting the kittens holding tails. I did some Copic coloring for the cats, making sure I used my grays along the darkest areas of the cats to create the shadows from where the moon’s light would not be shining.

The background is created by doing some ink smooshing with distress inks (Salty Ocean, Blueprint Sketch and Dusty Concord). Often times when creating with different mediums, you run into times when something just isn’t working out right. This background I almost got rid of; but with a bit of effort and mixing of colors, I was able to turn  it into a background that I truly loved! So do not get discouraged when something isn’t working out right away… keep working with it and you may find it turns out better than you had hoped.

 

Some of the other elements in my scene include a picket fence die cut My Favorite Things, made from wood grain patterned paper, a snowy die cut from white cardstock using the Lawn Fawn Stitched Hillside Borders die set, as well as a moon die cut from watercolor paper and using ink smooshing with distress inks to create a textured effect (the die is from Simon Says Stamp’s Stitched Circles die set).
