Bold Birthday Greetings

Bold Birthday_2

Hello! I am so glad you’ve stopped by today for a very fun and bold birthday card!

I was inspired by the Seize the Birthday challenge of “Tall and Skinny” to create this card shape, and thought it would be great to take it a bit further and incorporate some tall, skinny candles into it as well!

I began by cutting a 6 1/2″ by 3 1/2″ (folded) card base from some black cardstock, and using a dot stencil and some Wendy Vecchi translucent embossing paste, I created a glossy texture to my card.

For a bit of die/fussy cutting…

I cut my main white panel from cardstock and scored a frame around the edges. I also cut three, 1/4″ strips of cardstock to create my candles, using the Simon Says Stamp Doll Pink, Audrey Blue, and Green Apple cardstocks. To add some interest to these flat colors, I brought in Worn Lipstick, Peacock Feathers and Mowed Lawn distress inks to add some shading along the lower half of each “candle” and covered each one with some Wink of Stella glitter.

With the Spring Showers die set by Lawn Fawn, I cut some raindrops from Sunshine and Orange Peel cardstocks. I layered the orange drops over the yellow at a slight offset, turning them into candle wicks. I covered the wicks with some Wink of Stella glitter as well.

Finally, I die cut the word ‘happy’ four times from some black cardstock using my Silhouette Cameo. I then layered three of them together, leaving the fourth un-adhered for the time being.

Putting my card together, I adhered my three-stacked ‘happy’ die cut with some liquid glue, and all my candles over top using foam tape. I adhered the fourth ‘happy’ over my candles, making sure to line it up with the ‘happy’ stack that was already adhered down to the panel. Some Glossy Accents is covering the ‘happy’ and the wicks, to give some extra shine and dimension.

I also stamped the word ‘birthday’, from the Simon Says Stamp “Celebrate” stamp set, onto some vellum and heat embossed it in white powder, before adhering the sentiment strip across the panel.

With my card just about finished, I layered the panel onto my card base with foam tape and tied a yellow ribbon around the card. I also scattered a few sequins about to add a bit more interest to the design and round things off.

I love the way this card turned out and I hope you’ve enjoyed it too! Thanks so much for stopping by! :)
