You’re the Cat’s Meow
Happy Monday!
So glad you’ve stopped by today for this one layer birthday card featuring stamps from Newton’s Nook adorable “Newton’s Antics” and “Just Say Cheese” stamp sets!
I began by die cutting the word “meow” from some white cardstock using my Silhouette Cameo; this is going to be used as a mask for tracing. The word “meow” is created from the Meow digital cut file that I designed, and is available for purchase at my Etsy shop.
Once my die cut was created, I stamped the cat in a box image onto my A2 watercolor paper card base with some StazOn Jet Black ink. With a black multiliner, I did some sketching at the base of the box, as well as along portions of the lines on the cat, just to give it all a more defined edge.
Next, I laid my “meow” cardstock mask onto my card base and traced the letters with my black multiliner, being careful not to draw over the cat I had already stamped. Finally, I took the “you’re the cat’s meow” sentiment, and did some strategic stamping so that my sentiment was on one line, and also so that I did not stamp the word “meow” and have it on my card a second time.
Bringing in my watercolor pencils, I colored in the cat, and the word “meow”. To blend my shading, I used some Dove blending solution and a paintbrush, rather than water. I like how the blending solution really blends the colors cleanly, and there is a lot less bleeding of color.
Once my coloring was dry, I masked off the word “meow” and the cat before taking some Tim Holtz distress inks (Rusty Hinge, Peacock Feathers and Iced Spruce) and a wet paintbrush to add ink splatters around my card.
Some finishing touches include some orange twine around tied around the top of the card, as well as some Glossy Accents applied over the word “meow”.
A few other details…
I decorated the envelope and inside of the card with the wind up mouse and a happy birthday sentiment, both from Newton’s Nook stamp sets (Just Say Cheese and Newton’s Antics). I also added a paw print on the front flap of the envelope as a final touch.
I just love how cute this cat stamp is from the Newton’s Antics stamp set; all the images in the set are adorable! I hope you’ve enjoyed today’s card… thanks so much for stopping by!

Very cute card, great layout and thanks for the complete instructions.
Hello Nina- Marie! This card is so awesome! I love the colors and the giant “MEOW”! Your coloring is super vibrant and pretty and the extra touch with the paint splatters really finishes it nicely!
Great coloring. Love the splatter of color in the background.
such a cute card-love the splatters and fab colours. Thanks for joining Uniko
This is such a charming little card! I love the colors and how you added those fabulous splatters to your image. I also enjoyed reading through your creative process and all of that masking that was involved! It was worth it because the layers look incredible. The Baker’s Twine gives it just the right bit of dimension and texture and I simply adore the inside! How clever to continue the theme to the inside of the card, too. Great work here and I’m so glad you shared your talents with us here at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog!
