Joy for the New Year

Hello Everyone!

With the ringing in of the new year just a few days away, I thought it would be the perfect time to share some inspiration for your 2015 New Year’s cards.

When one thinks of New Year’s, it always goes back to bright, shiny and sparkly. I wanted to create a card featuring brilliant golds and shiny silvers as the main colors and the new “Joy” star cut file by Silhouette seemed to be the perfect fit for the card design I had in mind.

I cut the star out four times from white cardstock; first on the panel that would be going on my card, and then three times onto a scrap of the same white cardstock. I wanted the “joy” part of the sentiment to really stand out, so I ended up detaching the “joy” from the other three stars and adhering them on top of the star from my card panel.

The tiny stars scattered behind and around the “joy” are punched from gold and silver embossed paper and are adhered to a separate piece of cardstock. The cardstock that the little stars are adhered to is layered behind my main card panel with dimensional foam tape.

Some gold and silver accents include a glittery scalloped frame layered behind all the other panels, silver faux stitching, a strand of gold thread tied in a bow, and some gold and silver dots and ink splatters. Finally, for an extra bit of shine and dimension, I applied a coating of Glossy Accents to the word “joy”.

Before I go, I wanted to mention that there is a fun challenge going on over at CASology this week, with “light” as the theme… stars are certainly full of bright light! :) I’ve submitted this card into the challenge, and encourage you all to head on over and join in on the fun too!
