Simon’s Love Release 5 Ways + Hop!

Simon's Love Release 5 Ways + Hop!

Hello everyone! Welcome to my stop in the Simon Says Stamp Love Release blog hop! Today I am sharing 5 card ideas for using the newest, heartwarming products from Simon! I had a blast creating with these new stamps and dies, and I hope you enjoy seeing them all come together!

If you have already been hopping along with us, you should have arrived from the amazingly-talented Debby Hughes’ blog. Or if you are just joining the fun, you can find the hop list and details further down at the end of this post.

Watercolor & Copics with Pencils

My first set of cards to share with you all feature the new and oh-so-stunning Cosmos background stamp. I stamped a whole bunch of backgrounds with the light-toned Fossil ink to do some no-line coloring.

In the video above, I share how I used Copics and colored pencils to achieve a more realistic effect, as well as watercolors for a bright, more loose design.

The watercolor card that features the silver script greeting has a pretty inlaid frame effect, created with Memory Box’s Wrapped Stitch Rectangles die set. I added pretty sequins from Lucy’s Cards’ Happiness mix, plus silver paint splatter accents.

I love foiled effects; that’s probably why this watercolored card with the stunning I love you message is my most-favorite of this post! The purple foiled cardstock is from Tonic Studios’ Electric Purple cardstock pack and I used a previously released Simon die to cut the greeting. Again I added metallic paint splatters to the background, along with Lucy’s Cards Bridal Mix gems.

If you are more of a Copic or pencil colorist, or prefer subtle colors over bright ones, then this next card may be more your style! I wanted to show you that you could get equally as stunning of an effect with this stamp using any medium you prefer.

I added a fun border to the bottom edge of my colored panel using Simon’s Dot Scallop border die; I also layered a few other dot scallops underneath the floral panel, which are cut from DCWV Shimmer Cardstock.

The greetings are from a recently released stamp set from Simon called Love & Friendship; I heat embossed them onto colored cardstocks that coordinated with the flowers. For additional embellishment, there are Marshmallow confetti sequins adhered around the greetings, with Nuvo Gloss Drops filling the centers. I LOVE the look of Nuvo Drops inside of sequins. The results are so pretty and lately it has been a favorite technique of mine!

Subtle Dimensional Die Cutting

I have a second video for you today! This card features the beautiful Cupid’s Heart Border die, also just released by Simon Says Stamp! When I saw this new die, my first idea was to use it along the bottom of a card with each individual element inlaid with different colors of cardstock. I really loved how it turned out!

Because the border is so pretty, I wanted it to be the center focus of the design; this prompted me to keep the rest of the card fairly simple. I placed colorful Rainbow Sparkle Gems around the in-lay hearts for a bit of sparkle. I also added a layered die cut greeting using the cute Here For You sentiment set.

There are lots of ways to use this border die and I cannot wait to try out more ideas I have tucked away in my head! One of the most-awesome things about this latest release from Simon Says Stamp is that all of these dies can be used to make love-themed cards ALL YEAR LONG! Talk about versatility!

Bonus Card Using the Love Release!

Simon's Love Release 5 Ways + Hop!

I don’t have a video for this final card that I made with the new Love release, but I wanted to share it anyway to inspire you with an idea using the Shiny Hearts die set! This trio of heart-bursts is very unique and also makes a great focal point on your card!

Simon's Love Release 5 Ways + Hop!

I die cut the hearts into a background that I had made using a Distress Ink smooshing technique. If you’re new to Distress Ink smooshing, check out one of my most recent videos HERE that features an easy way to do Distress Ink smooshing with freezer paper!

After cutting the background, I also cut that same die from purple foil cardstock to create the shiny hearts in the center. LOVE the effect with the metallic watercolor splatters! There is even a bit of silver metallic watercolor over each “burst” to create a sense of shininess!

There are a few other details on the card that help bring everything together; the metallic stripes on the card base are painted to give movement and tie in the metallic on the background. The scallop stitching details along the top and bottom of the panel help give the heart “burst” effect a bit more “oomph” and make everything cohesive. Finally, the sentiments are embossed onto coordinating colors of cardstock to help balance out the purple. Taking the time to think these little details through helps make the card design look fabulous!
