In Lay Die Cutting + Simon’s Hey Love Release Hop

Hello crafty friends! Welcome to my stop in the Simon Says Stamp Hey Love release blog hop! This hop features inspiration using some of the newest products from Simon, so you will definitely want to make sure you stop by each blog to see what everyone has been creating… I’ve got a few cards to share with you today that feature a lot of die cutting!

Hey Love Blog Hop Simon Says Stamp

One of the products that I love most from the Hey Love release is the Hearts Align die. This die is so versatile, because it not only cuts out a bunch of different sized hearts, but also an outline too! Another thing that makes this die is versatile is it’s ability to be used across an entire card front, whether you are making a horizontal or vertical card; the cards I created today are all top folding, vertical cards.

To create the hearts for my cards, I first needed to make the paper I was going to be die cutting from. Ink smooshing is a fun technique that I enjoy incorporating into my cards and I felt that the hearts would look gorgeous with a red and pink, ink smooshed texture. If you are not a fan of ink smooshing, or just want to save some time and do something simpler, you could use plain cardstock or patterned papers in place of the ink smooshed paper I made. In the video, I will show you how I created these ink smooshed hearts.

After I created the backgrounds on my cards, I needed to add sentiments. For this, I used a combination of the Kristina’s Love and Laura’s Love stamps and die sets. These sets are GORGEOUS and I adore the delicate script font of the Kristina’s Love die. The sentiments are adhered onto cardstock and vellum strips that span the entire width of the cards.

Now, in the video you will see I made extra ink smooshed heart die cuts; this was because I wanted to make sure that I had enough to make all my cards (I hate running out of something while I am in the middle of creating!). Since I had extra pieces after I finished the two cards I just shared with you, I decided to make use of these leftovers and create a couple of quick and easy cards.

On these two cards, I created patterns to help give the backgrounds a more balanced feel; in the video below, I will show how I laid out these backgrounds. A couple of tools I find helpful for lining up my dies are a ruler (I like the Tim Holtz metal edge ruler) and the Simon Says Stamp Large Grid Paper. I’ve also been eyeing up the We R Memory Keepers Laser Square Tool; this tool has sliding lasers on its right angle, collapsible ruler and helps line things up with precision and accuracy. This tool is definitely on my “I need” list!

After I made the backgrounds on these cards, I decorated them with more of Simon’s newest products, such as: the Miss You die, Laura’s Love stamp set, the Scallop Stitches die set and the Handlettered Greetings die set.
