Spotlight and Full Width Scenes + Hop

Hi Everyone, and Happy Friday! Today’s video is part of the new Reason to Smile release from Simon Says Stamp and I’m super excited to have my two newest stamp sets in this release!

If you are already hopping along, you should have arrived from my sweet friend Nichol Magouirk’s blog… she always makes such adorable cards, doesn’t she???

There are so many fabulous products being showcased in the Reason to Smile release, all of which you can find over at the Simon Says Stamp shop. And here are the two new sets that I designed; Friendship Blooms and Springtime Critters. The Friendship Blooms stamp set has coordinating dies (sold separately).

So onto today’s cards! Yes, I have two cards to share with you, each featuring different ways to create scene cards. My first card showcases the spotlight scene technique with a recessed window. I’ve used the Friendship Blooms stamps and dies to create a sweet, springtime scene that makes me wish it was warm outside right now! :)

This card features a few die cutting and Copic marker techniques, including in-lay die cutting and what I like to call the spotlight scene technique.

To see how I created the card, be sure to check out the video below or over on my YouTube channel! If you enjoy it, please give it a thumbs up and perhaps subscribe to my channel… I have new videos coming out every week!

So onto my second scene card… this one features the beautiful Churches die set, another exclusive Simon Says Stamp die set. Simon’s dies are made of top-quality steel which means they will cut perfectly for a long, long time.

I began by doing all my die cutting first; I die cut the church from both light brown and white cardstock; the rectangle panel from white cardstock (Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangles dies); the trees from green cardstocks (Simon Says Stamp exclusive Darling Friends die set); the grass from a light green cardstock (My Favorite Things Grassy Hills border dies); and the sun from yellow cardstock (Lawn Fawn Spring Showers die set).

Once I had everything die cut, I used my Copics to add shading to the pieces. I used the following colors for the images:

  • Church: E23, E29, E37, E49, BG000, B00, Bg01, Y11, YR31
  • Trees: YG63, YG67
  • Grass: YG21, YG25, YG63
  • Sun: YR31, Y38

After I colored everything, I put the pieces together and layered them on top of my stitched rectangle panel. The panel has some Tumbled Glass distress ink blended onto the bottom portion and I heat embossed a sentiment from the Friendship Blooms set.

To finish things off, I added some Wink of Stella glitter to the windows and cross of the church, as well as the sun; the windows and cross also have a layer of Glossy Accents applied over top. A few Sparkling Clear sequins from Pretty Pink Posh were scattered about to add a little more shine to the card.

Today’s post is also part a special celebration for the Simon Says Stamp Reason to Smile release! I am only one of many stops in the hop, so be sure to keep visiting the other talented and amazing designers taking part in today’s hop!

Your next stop is my amazing friend Kelly Latevola! I know you are going to love what she’s created… and if you don’t know it by now, she’s a genius with Copics!! If you get lost along the way, you can always start back at the beginning over on the Simon Say Stamp blog.

Remember, scenes don’t have to take up an entire card to make a great impact and tell the story. Here are a few more cards that might be inspiring to you, all featuring different ways to create scenes… click on a picture to be taken to the corresponding post.
