Watercolor with Picket Fence and Poppy Stamps

Watercolor with Picket Fence and Poppy Stamps

Hello everyone and Happy New Year! I hope that 2019 brings all of you much joy and happiness!

Today I am sharing a project I created with a new-to-me Picket Fence stamp, along with a brand new set of friendship greetings from Poppy Stamps! I also used watercolor in an unexpected place, which creates some amazing drama!

This amazing Beautiful Girls stamp is called Sydnee; Picket Fence has a whole series of Beautiful Girl stamps, which I really love.

I’ve enjoyed working with these Beautiful Girls stamps; you can see another project I created with the Isabella set in this tutorial (includes a video).

What strikes me most about the Sydnee stamp is her gorgeous hair. The cascading locks are so pretty and immediately I thought of her hair with a rainbow of color across it. I wasn’t sure how the end result would look, but once I had finished, I was completely in love with the look!

For watercoloring, I used my custom mix of Prima and Daniel Smith colors; I keep the colors stored in half pans, organized inside the Altenew Pan Case.

Because of the way this girl’s hair is illustrated, I planned ahead with the colors; darker, more intense colors such as red, blue and purple are placed in the center area of her hair and under her chin. I reserved the lighter colors for the edges of her hair. The placement of the colors gives the image more contrast and depth. For the rest of the girl, I used traditional colors, which lends to a really dramatic appearance.

The greeting is a beauty as well! It comes from the Love and Friends Poppy Stamps set, which is filled with sweet sentiments of friendship. I used one of them along the right side of the card. With the coloring of this girl taking center stage, I kept the rest of the card very simple and only added a few Ice Crystal sequins from Lucy’s Cards.

I hope this card has inspired you to try using lots of colors in unexpected places on your next project; I also hope that you are inspired to create with these great stamps from Picket Fence and Poppy Stamps!

I am so happy you stopped by today, and that you will be coming back again soon for more creative ideas!
