Watercolor Palette Smooshing + Galaxy Background + Simon Hop

Watercolor Palette Smooshing + Galaxy Background + Simon Hop | Nina-Marie Design

Happy Saturday crafters! Thanks for coming by my stop in the Simon Says Stamp Encouraging Words release blog hop! If you’ve already been hopping along with us, you should have arrived from Amanda Korotkova’s blog.

Today I wanted to do a variation on the ink smooshing technique, but do it with watercolors instead of ink pads. I found it easiest to recreate the technique by using the Art Impressions watercolor palette. But if you don’t have this palette, you could easily do this technique with a craft sheet, wax paper or other slick surfaces (basically something that isn’t going to absorb the watercolors).

The technique is very easy to recreate; I simply smooshed multiple layers of blue and purple watercolor onto my paper to create a textured, galaxy background.  The paper I used in this card was Canson XL paper.

The gorgeous, script “you are a star” sentiment and the cute stars around it are all from the new You Are a Star die set from Simon’s Encouraging Words release. I think the font of this die is so pretty and delicate and I loved how nicely it paired with the elegant colors of my starry, watercolored sky.

On one of the cards I in-lay die cut the stars and the sentiment…

And then on the other, I used the rest of the background and some of the leftover pieces to make a second card (this way nothing goes to waste)…

I really enjoyed creating the backgrounds on these cards! The layers and textures of the watercolor add so much interest to the card design. And the coolest part, is that you never know how exactly it is going turn out as you do the smooshing!

Stunning background, the colours are so so vibrant and perfect for the galaxy. And that word die cut is so delicate you would think it would get lost, but it doesn’t! Beautiful !
