Happy Friday crafty friends! Today I am excited to be participating in Simon’s Mothers, Fathers and Florals release hop! Have you seen the new release? I was very eager to play with the new background stamps and do some techniques with Distress Oxide inks.

Background stamps are perfect for using for ink techniques. Since I was planning on doing just that, I thought the new Flora and Cora background stamps from Simon would be a great fit for my cards.
For the ink I used a couple of the new Distress Oxide inks in both Worn Lipstick and Wilted Violet. I wanted to create a ghosted effect with the background stamps. The way that the Distress Oxides are formulated, they react perfect to this technique.
[/fusion_text][fusion_separator style_type=”none” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility” top_margin=”10″ bottom_margin=”10″ alignment=”center” /][fusion_imageframe image_id=”11633″ style_type=”none” stylecolor=”” hover_type=”zoomin” bordersize=”” bordercolor=”” borderradius=”” align=”center” lightbox=”yes” gallery_id=”” lightbox_image=”https://ninamariedesign.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Ghost-Imaging-with-Distress-Oxides_8a.jpg” alt=”Ghost Imaging with Distress Oxide + Simon Release Hop | Nina-Marie Design” link=”” linktarget=”_self” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”left” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_offset=””]https://ninamariedesign.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Ghost-Imaging-with-Distress-Oxides_8a.jpg[/fusion_imageframe][fusion_separator style_type=”none” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility” top_margin=”10″ bottom_margin=”10″ alignment=”center” /][fusion_text]
A ghosted effect is where the stamped image is receded into the background of a design. By creating a wash over top of the stamped patterns, I was able to push the design into the background.
The wash could be created by watercoloring over top of the design with fresh color, but I felt that the result of moving the color from the stamped images themselves provided a more effective result. I will be showing how I achieved these backgrounds in my video below.

I made two sets of backgrounds today; one of the sets are thank you cards, but I first want to focus on the other set, which features the new Mom and Dad Icons stamp set.
First, I white heat embossed the word “mom” onto by background using white embossing powder. I then colored inside the letters using concentrated India inks from PH Martin. Because they are highly concentrated, they cover over the background design perfectly and still have intense saturation.
[/fusion_text][fusion_separator style_type=”none” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility” top_margin=”10″ bottom_margin=”10″ alignment=”center” /][fusion_imageframe image_id=”11635″ style_type=”none” stylecolor=”” hover_type=”zoomin” bordersize=”” bordercolor=”” borderradius=”” align=”center” lightbox=”yes” gallery_id=”” lightbox_image=”https://ninamariedesign.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Ghost-Imaging-with-Distress-Oxides_4a.jpg” alt=”Ghost Imaging with Distress Oxide + Simon Release Hop | Nina-Marie Design” link=”” linktarget=”_self” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”left” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_offset=””]https://ninamariedesign.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Ghost-Imaging-with-Distress-Oxides_4a.jpg[/fusion_imageframe][fusion_separator style_type=”none” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility” top_margin=”10″ bottom_margin=”10″ alignment=”center” /][fusion_text]
I then added a supporting sentiment from the same Mom and Dad Icons set by white heat embossing it onto a strip of cardstock. I matched the colors of the cardstock perfectly by making my own; I smooshed Worn Lipstick and Wilted Violet Distress Oxide colors onto paper. After drying them, I was able to heat emboss the sentiments and cut them down into banner shapes. This is a great tip to keep in mind if you are unable to find a perfect, coordinating piece of cardstock.
[/fusion_text][fusion_separator style_type=”none” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility” top_margin=”10″ bottom_margin=”10″ alignment=”center” /][fusion_imageframe image_id=”11636″ style_type=”none” stylecolor=”” hover_type=”zoomin” bordersize=”” bordercolor=”” borderradius=”” align=”center” lightbox=”yes” gallery_id=”” lightbox_image=”https://ninamariedesign.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Ghost-Imaging-with-Distress-Oxides_2a.jpg” alt=”Ghost Imaging with Distress Oxide + Simon Release Hop | Nina-Marie Design” link=”” linktarget=”_self” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”left” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_offset=””]https://ninamariedesign.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Ghost-Imaging-with-Distress-Oxides_2a.jpg[/fusion_imageframe][fusion_separator style_type=”none” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility” top_margin=”10″ bottom_margin=”10″ alignment=”center” /][fusion_text]
To decorate the cards, I used the Holiday Shapes heart die from Simon Says Stamp and cut some hearts that I had watercolored with the India inks. This allows them to match the sentiment and tie in all the colors used throughout the cards.
My second set of cards – the thank yous – feature a slightly different design.

I heat embossed sentiments onto the backgrounds using the Thankful Heart stamp set from Simon. To dress up the edges of these panels, I used Memory Box’s Tailored Stitches die set. The stitching detail adds a beautiful, elegant feel to the cards. I think they would be perfect as a wedding thank you, don’t you think?
[/fusion_text][fusion_separator style_type=”none” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility” top_margin=”10″ bottom_margin=”10″ alignment=”center” /][fusion_imageframe image_id=”11639″ style_type=”none” stylecolor=”” hover_type=”zoomin” bordersize=”” bordercolor=”” borderradius=”” align=”center” lightbox=”yes” gallery_id=”” lightbox_image=”https://ninamariedesign.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Ghost-Imaging-with-Distress-Oxides_9a.jpg” alt=”Ghost Imaging with Distress Oxide + Simon Release Hop | Nina-Marie Design” link=”” linktarget=”_self” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”left” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_offset=””]https://ninamariedesign.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Ghost-Imaging-with-Distress-Oxides_9a.jpg[/fusion_imageframe][fusion_separator style_type=”none” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility” top_margin=”10″ bottom_margin=”10″ alignment=”center” /][fusion_text]
To finish off the cards, I added some ribbon across the top on two of the cards; on the third, I sprinkled a bit of sequins around the large sentiment. On the two cards with the ribbon, I also added some Nuvo Crystal Drops in the pearl color. That soft pearl really looked nice against the colors of the background!

I was super thrilled to have designed two new stamp sets for the previous Simon Says Stamp release and in THIS release, the coordinating dies have been brought in for those sets, as well as one more additional die set called Forget Me Not Flowers!
The Forget Me Not flower dies are stand alone dies that can be used to create your own custom forget me not florals. I’ll be sharing a video soon using these dies, so stay tuned for that!
