Simple Watercolor Border + Simon’s DieCember™ Release

Hi crafty friends and HAPPY DIE-CEMBER™!!! I am back to blogging again… had to take a break for some traveling (which was SO fun and I got to see some special friends!) So I’m sure you’ve heard it is DieCember™, right?? This month long celebration from Simon Says Stamp just got kicked off with a special release of MANY new dies that you are going to want to add to your collection.

I love so many of the new dies but one in particular caught my eye which was the Birch Column die; many of you may recognize the design from the popular Birch Tree Window die that was released during STAMPtember. This is a similar design, but instead of cutting a window, this can span across an entire card lengthwise! The design of it makes it super easy to create dimensional effects, in lay die cutting, tall windows on a non-traditional card size, and so much more.

I decided I wanted to create a dimensional panel along the left side of an A2 card and watercolor some simple, abstract-like details onto the die cut shapes. I think the loose feel of the watercolor lends towards the style of these trees, but you could go much more detailed if you wish!

I paired this Birch Column die with two other die sets that are from the new release; Heartfelt and Spinner Trail. I really like how the Spinner Trail border die looks die cut from vellum, as it adds that perfect amount of texture to a design without being distracting. The font style of one of the Heartfelt word dies also works perfectly as a negative-space die; I turned a rectangle strip of cardstock into a negative die cut label to pop up off the card.

For additional embellishing I used Ranger’s Stickles glitter glue to add a crusty, ice-like shimmer to the winter leaves of these birch trees. Some Sparkling Clear sequins from Pretty Pink Posh are also scattered around as well.
