Watercolor and Copics + Hop

Hello everyone and Happy Thursday! Thanks so much for joining me today for a fun look at some brand new products from both 28 Lilac Lane and Simon Says Stamp!

This post is part of a special debut blog hop showcasing the new 28 Lilac Lane button/embellishment kits designed by my friend May Flaum! She’s such a talented artist and cardmaker; most of you have probably seen her name out in Blogland over the years. This year she has released her very own button line entitled 28 Lilac Lane in conjunction with Buttons Galore and More. I’m so happy for her success and that I can help support her endeavors!

My card for this hop showcases the half pearls and seed beads that are included in her button kits; these beauties are from the Love Story collection. I love the reds and pearl colors that are in this kit; very elegant and classy. I used the color palette of the kit to help me choose the colors I wanted to use for my card.

To create my card, I’m using the new Simon Says Stamp Sketched Ranunculus stamp set, which was just released in their online shop today (be sure to check out my other post for today which features another project using one of their new stamp and die sets, as well as links to the entire release)!

I started off by stamping the images from Sketched Ranunculus onto watercolor paper (die cut with a handstitched rectangle die), using Simon Says Stamp Intense Black ink (Copic-friendly and waterproof). The choice of paper and ink for this project is critical because I will be doing both watercoloring and Copic coloring on this card.

Once I had everything stamped, I colored my images with Copics. I have the colors broken down for you below as reference and also linked to Simon Says Stamp at the bottom of this blog post.

• large ranunculus: YR00, YR61, YR02
• small ranunculus: R35, R56
• buds: Bv0000, BV31, BV23, BG10, BG34
• berries: RV95, YR23, Y21
• leaves: YG61, YG63, YG91, YG95, YG97, G99

Once my Copic coloring was finished, I moved on to watercoloring my background; I used Tim Hotlz distress inks in Antique Linen, Cracked Pistachio and Gathered Twigs. I started by applying a wash of Antique Linen and once that dried, I mixed Antique Linen and Cracked Pistachio together to create a soft green tone. I did not apply this green color over the entire background, but rather in random areas to create a layered and variegated look. Finally, when that layer was dry, I added ink splatters using all three ink colors and a Distress Splatter Brush.

For a sentiment, I used a stamp set from Whimsy Stamps, as I wanted this to be for a mom-themed occasion; this sentiment is perfect for not only Mother’s Day, but can also be used year round. The word “mother” is heat embossed in gold and the rest of the sentiment is stamped in black onto a small strip of cardstock.

Finally, I added my half pearl and seed bead embellishments all around my card using PPA Matte adhesive (my favorite liquid glue!).
