This post is part of Reverse Confetti’s Spring Fling blog hop, where all the design team members and special guest (me), are creating anything but a card! So when I was creating my project, I thought it would be fun to use the new Butterfly Dreams stamp and die sets to create some colorful watercolored envelopes that are perfect for holding gift cards in.

I started off by stamping the “kindness matters” butterflies (I adore this stamp) onto watercolor paper using distress inks. I shared a similar technique using this same butterfly stamp set on my blog a couple weeks ago and I loved it so much I had to do it again! You can see the card using this technique over at this post.

As you may know, stamping with clear stamps and distress inks doesn’t usually provide perfect results; distress inks stamp splotchy because of their make up. However, I used this to my advantage to create built in texture. After stamping the butterflies I used the same colors of distress ink (Picked Raspberry, Abandoned Coral, Wild Honey) to watercolor back over top the butterflies and fill them in. The result is a gorgeous watercolored butterfly with a subtle texture underneath (die cut out using the coordinating Butterfly Dreams die set). LOVE!

Next came the envelopes. I am a big fan of creating custom envelopes for my cards and usually almost every card I send to friends and family is enclosed inside a pretty handmade or handstamped envelope. For these gift card envelopes, I cut down  thin watercolor paper (linked in the product section at the bottom of the post), and did a bunch of watercoloring on top using distress inks that coordinated with my butterflies.

After my three watercolor panels were dry, I used the We R Memory Keepers 1-2-3 Punch Board to turn my watercolor background into envelopes. You can even use this board to create boxes and bows; check out this post for a video tutorial I did on creating a string tie treat box.

Once my envelopes were put together, I heat embossed a sentiment and some butterflies on the backside of each envelope to add a little more decoration and finish things off.
