Watercoloring on Vellum

Hi Everyone! I am back today to share a fun “watercoloring” technique, that uses no water at all!

I found this post over on Carissa Wiley’s blog, about making watercolor-style backgrounds on vellum, and I thought it would be fun to make a scene using the same type of concept. Of course, Copic markers do not blend with water, so I used a rubbing alcohol (70%), to blend the colors together.

It is suggested that you use the 90% alcohol to achieve the smoothest blend, but I wanted to have some of the marker strokes still show up in my watercoloring, just to add some texture and interest. To create my scene, I simply did some loose sketching and shading with my Copics, and then took a paintbrush, dipped in rubbing alcohol, to blend it all out.

I then mounted a Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle frame on top of my vellum panel; gold glitter cardstock is layered behind both pieces and I also die cut my sentiment from the cardstock as well, using the Simon Says Stamp Cake and Congrats die set. To finish off my scene, I added a bit of sparkly confetti.

This technique was so quick and simple and really a lot of fun to do! I hope you’ve enjoyed my card today, and I would love to hear what you think. Thanks so much for stopping by, I will see you again soon!
