Watercolored Birthday Scoops with Newton’s Nook

Hello Everyone! I am so glad you’ve stopped by today, as I am over on the Newton’s Nook blog, sharing this fun, watercolored birthday card using their brand new Summer Scoops stamp set!

I really enjoy watercoloring, and it is a very popular trend right now in the crafting community. For my card, I chose to work with a slight “loose” watercoloring technique and white heat embossed all my ice creams to create a resist for the outlines of the images. My sentiment is also heat embossed; this time with gold embossing powder… I love the look of gold with watercoloring, so pretty!

I used Derwent watercolor pencils scribbled onto scrap cardstock, and picked up the color with a wet brush. This works better than coloring the pencils directly to the paper, because you can control the amount of  pigment on your image.

The card base is made from vellum and some pink cardstock is attached to the inside as well for a soft, subtle border. And finally, you cannot have a celebratory card without some shimmer and shine… so for that, I added Wink of Stella clear glitter overtop of each ice cream cone and heart.
