Spring Birthday Pop Up Card

Spring Birthday Pop Up_2a

Happy Wednesday! I am so glad you’ve stopped by today, as I have a spring-themed, birthday pop-up card to share with you!

I really love the new pop up dies by Papertrey Ink that came out recently, but I do not have any of my own. Soooo…. I thought it would be a lot of fun to make my own pop up card using basic dies that most everyone has in their stash. Let me show you how!

I began by die cutting a circle (a Spellbinders nested die sized a 3 3/4″) from some white cardstock. With a sun die from the Lawn Fawn Spring Showers die set, I laid it in the middle of my circle and ran it through my Big Shot, making sure to not die cut it all the way, as you would for any other partial die cutting  technique.

With my scoring board, I scored a line across the middle of the circle (making sure not to score my sun), and also a line across where the sun is still attached to the circle (see photo below).

Once the base of my pop up was complete, I die cut my background panel (in the same method as the base), a sun to adhere onto the base sun, and four clouds (also from the same Spring Showers die set).  To adhere everything, I attached the background, the sun and two of the clouds onto the circle with regular adhesive. The smallest of the three clouds (die cut twice), was adhered with foam tape on top of the sun, layered back to back to hide the adhesive.

My card base is 4 1/4″ square, and I layered a piece of striped patterned paper and a scalloped edged cardstock strip along the bottom of the card. I also stamped the word ‘birthday’ using the Simon Says Stamp Celebrate stamp set.

The word ‘happy’ is die cut three times from my Silhouette Cameo; the font used is Halo Handletter and is cut from Audrey Blue cardstock. They are all adhered together using matte adhesive and layered on top of my white scalloped strip.

I adhered some more clouds from the Spring Showers die set onto the card base, and scored a frame around the edges of the card panel, avoiding the pattered paper.  Along the edges of the patterned paper, I drew on some faux stitching. Some Wink of Stella clear glitter on the word ‘happy’ and the stripes of the patterned paper, finished off the front of the card. I love how the clean and simple layout really lets the word ‘happy’ take center stage!

Inside the card, I adhered the pop up element to some scalloped circles and attached it along the fold of the card. I also adhered a small scalloped strip along the bottom portion to help tie in the paper on the front of the card, and applied a bit of Wink of Stella glitter to the sun.

I love how this card turned out… So much fun and very easy to do! I hope you enjoyed and that you will give the pop-up card a try as well. Happy Creating! :)
