Stripes & Dots at Cupcake Inspirations

Happy Sunday, so glad you’ve stopped by!

Today I have the exciting honor of being a Surprise Sweetie over at the Cupcake Inspirations blog challenge #303, “Stripes and Dots”!

I was really inspired by the bright, happy colors in the inspiration photo for this week’s challenge, and thought they would be perfect for an Easter card.

I chose to work with this adorable “Easter Tweet” digi stamp from the DigiStamp Boutique, as it also has some great polka dotted and striped Easter eggs as well, and fits perfectly into the challenge theme!

Starting off, I printed the digi stamp onto some cardstock, and colored it in with pencils. I added some additional dot details to the image, using a white paint pen. I fussy cut the image out, and colored the edges of the image with a black marker, to help finish it all off. Some Glossy Accents are added to the bird’s eyes, and some Wink of Stella glitter was added to the eggs.

Moving on to my background…

I stamped the clouds with the Lawn Fawn “Blue Skies” stamp set, as well as the sentiment using “Milo’s ABCs” alphabet stamps (also by Lawn Fawn), and the “Bunny Hop” stamp set by Newton’s Nook. All of my stamping was done with StazOn ink.

I drew the grass using a black multiliner, and then colored it with multiple shades of Derwent watercolor pencils before blending them together with water. With a white paint pen, I also added some highlights to the grass as well. I then inked the sky using some Peacock Feathers distress ink and an ink blending tool.

For the clouds, I added just a hint of shading using a warm gray Derwent pencil, and blended it out with my water brush. Finally, I adhered my little chick onto the background panel and then added some more grass details to help tie him in with the ground.

Using some Simon Says Stamp Cotton Candy cardstock and some 1/4″ masking tape, I masked off diagonal stripes on my card and inked them with some Doll Pink ink. I then adhered my background panel (layered onto some scalloped edged cardstock) to the card base using foam tape.

For some finishing touches, I added a white ribbon around the bottom portion of my card and added some faux stitching around the card base and the background panel.

I hope this has inspired you today and that you will join in on the Stripes and Dots challenge! Be sure to also check out all the projects created by the Sweeties over at Cupcake Inspirations!
