Layering Stamps

Happy Friday!

I am stopping by today with a fun layered stamping technique featuring some colors I was inspired to use from the Runway Inspired challenge #76. The inspiration photo had some beautiful blues, teals, oranges, yellows and dark pinks in it, and I loved how the five colors paired together in my card!

I began by stamping my sentiment first, to serve as a anchoring point and guide for stamping my balloons later on. I chose a fun “celebrate” stamp from Studio G, as well as a “happy birthday” and some star stamps from the “Stinky Skunk” set and the “On Cherry Street: Magical” kit, both by the Sweet Stamp Shop. All of these pieces were stamped in StazOn Jet Black ink, and the “celebrate” and “happy birthday” were also embossed with some clear embossing powder.

Next, I chose my colors for my balloons, which are from the Simon Says Stamp “Celebrate” stamp set. I wanted to work with pigment inks, as I prefer the coverage they give in stamping a nice crisp image. I chose a teal, light blue, dark pink, coral, and yellow inks for my balloons, and began stamping in the top left of my cardstock panel, working clockwise to the bottom left.

Once all the balloons were stamped, I took a white gel pen and drew little highlights onto the left sides of the balloons for some depth. I chose not to stamp the strings, as I wanted to keep the design clean, and also give the illusion of the balloons simply floating around.

I stamped the stars in some grey ink, which are from the Sweet Stamp Shop’s “On Cherry Street: Magical” kit. Next, I took the Heidi Swapp “Polka Dots” stencil and using some of the yellow, coral and teal inks and a sponge dauber, I lightly applied some random polka dots around the balloons for a bit of added interest.

Finally, I added some Wink of Stella glitter to the balloons and stars, and drew some white faux stitching around the panel edges. My panel was then layered upon a piece of white cardstock, and adhered to my card base with foam tape; the card base is covered in yellow patterned paper from the Craft Smith “Blackberry Lemon” paper pad.

I love how bright and festive the color combination is! And when the stamps are layered over each other, it really creates some fun mid tones that add a lot of great depth and interest to your card.

Thank you for stopping by! :)
