Best Friends

Hello Everybody!

I thought I would share with you a quick and easy friendship card using the sketch from the Paper Smooches Sparks Designer’s Draft challenge.

I really like the cute little kite stamp by Paper Smooches, and have used that as the focal image on my card for today. I stamped it in Jet Black StazOn ink onto my card panel (made from watercolor paper), as well as on a separate piece of watercolor paper, before beginning to add my color.

I began by coloring in the sky of my image with a light wash of Peacock Feathers distress ink. Once dry, I then came back to the sky with a Heidi Swapp polka dot stencil and some Faded Jeans distress ink, and applied a light set of polka dots to the background, keeping them in the general right area of the panel.

Next, I applied some Ranger Texture Paste to the clouds with a paintbrush; the reason I chose to work with the paste for coloring in the clouds on my image is because I really like the way it resembles a cloud’s puffy texture, and it adds a lot more interest to the card, rather than a flat color medium.

The kite is colored with watercolor  pencils and blended with a Dove blender pen before fussy cutting and adhering to the card panel with foam tape. I also added some Wink of Stella clear glitter to the kite, kite bows, and polka dots for a bit of shimmer.

The sentiment on both the front and the inside are made with a combination of stamps from the Paper Smooches “Scripty Sayings” set and the Elle’s Studio “Fun in the Sun” stamp set. I love how the two sets pair so well together to create some fun sentiments! :)

The kite panel is layered on a piece of white cardstock before adhering it to my polka dot kraft A2 card with foam tape and a golden yellow ribbon is laid along the right side of the card for a pop of extra color.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this card, and thank you so much for stopping by! Be sure to check out today’s Workshop Wednesday post, where I’m featuring some more colored penciling, plus a few fun tips on how to get some great effects with your coloring!

Happy Creating!
